The world of computer electronics is constantly offering newer, faster and cooler versions of the technology we love. This is never more obvious than when the holidays roll around, and everyone’s wish list seems to include a new gadget. So what do you do with your old computer equipment when you replace it with something new?

Since Santa has no take-back program to speak of, most of the time these older models get stashed in garages, closets and attics where they are out of sight and out of mind. Or worse yet, these items get thrown in the garbage where they are directed to landfills and can be hazardous to the environment.
Rather than trash or store your old computer equipment, why not donate it this holiday season, and let it do some good for your community instead?
Dell Reconnect is a free computer recycling program created by Dell and Goodwill that allows community members to donate their old equipment – any brand, in any condition – to their local Goodwill where it will then be evaluated and either resold, refurbished or recycled.
By utilizing the program, not only is Dell Reconnect able to ensure that none of your e-waste ends up in a landfill, but you also get the satisfaction of knowing your donation helps someone in your community with disabilities or disadvantages receive work and life skills through Goodwill.
This year, Dell Reconnect has joined forces with Causes.com to encourage computer equipment donations to Goodwill this holiday season through their Powering the Possible pledge. Dell Reconnect has already recycled 253 million pounds of e-waste since 2004 and supports Dell’s goal to recycle 1 billion pounds globally by 2014.
Donating your old e-waste to Goodwill helps your community, is good for the environment, and has the potential to free up some extra closet space at home. As an additional perk, Dell Reconnect will be thanking each person who takes the pledge with a $20 coupon toward their next Dell purchase.
Dell’s Powering the Possible pledge has already received over 19,000 pledges since its kick-off November 15 and is on track to hit its goal of 30,000 pledges by January.
